Green Lab
Organic and organoboron chemistry at SUNY Cortland
We investigate how molecular structure controls bonding, light absorption, and fluorescence. Led by Dr. Julius Green I, our lab combines organic synthesis, spectroscopy, and computational chemistry to develop boron-containing molecules and understand their electronic behavior.
Our research
Bonding and pseudoaromaticity
We study how the N–B–N motif and molecular geometry influence electron delocalization, connecting local bonding with aromatic behavior across a ring.
Light-responsive molecules
We synthesize benzodiazaborole derivatives and investigate how substituents, solvents, and molecular interactions shape their absorption and fluorescence.
DNA and RNA recognition
We explore boron-containing scaffolds as nucleic acid binders, connecting molecular design with binding behavior and optical response.
Undergraduate research
Undergraduates participate in every stage of our research—from designing and synthesizing molecules to interpreting experimental and computational results. Students build skills in scientific reasoning, collaboration, and communicating their discoveries.
